Latest Updates

• In response to no longer being able to demonstrate a five year supply of housing land, the Council has published an interim policy position statement. Consultation on this document closed at 5pm on Monday 9 March This can be found on SDC's Five Year Housing Supply web page.
• In light of a recent appeal, the Council can only demonstrate a land supply equivalent to 2.74 years.
• An updated Local Development Scheme was published in March 2025.
• The Preferred Options Consultation and accompanying targeted Call for Sites for the South Warwickshire Local Plan ran from 10 January to 7 March 2025. Please visit the South Warwickshire Local Plan website for further information.
• On 13 January 2025, the Moreton Morrell Parish Plan was adopted by Cabinet.
• SDC's planning service underwent a Peer Challenge by PAS in October 2023. Recommendations led to a broader improvement plan, now in progress.
• In October 2024 we published guidance on the relationship between Neighbourhood Development Plans and the emerging South Warwickshire Local Plan.
• On 3 June 2024, the Public Houses Planning Advice Note was approved for publication.
• The latest assessment of self and custom build supply and demand in Stratford-on-Avon District has now been published.

What We Do

The Planning Policy team is responsible for the policy framework that guides development in Stratford-on-Avon District. Our work includes:

• Developing the Council's planning policies about the scale, type and location of development, protection of the environment and provision of infrastructure
• Helping local communities to produce community-led plans (including neighbourhood plans, parish plans, and village design statements)
• Monitoring housing, business, and commercial development within the District and the infrastructure required to support future development
• Maintaining a sound evidence base to support future policies
