What is the Core Strategy?

The Core Strategy sets out our development strategy and planning policies. These policies include the allocation of strategic employment and housing sites, along with guidance on provision on infrastructure and services. The Core Strategy establishes the overall spatial vision for Stratford-on-Avon District up to 2031 and establishes the framework that our other planning documents will build upon. We adopted the Core Strategy on 11 July 2016.

Adopted Core Strategy

Change in LSV Categorisation of Ladbroke

In accordance with Policy CS.15, the Council has re-assessed the local service village categorisation of Ladbroke. As such, Ladbroke now falls under Part F of Policy CS.15 and is designated as ‘all other settlements'. View the Portfolio Holder decision to find out more about the background and reasons for this change.

Policies Map

The Policies Map illustrates geographically the application of the policies in the Development Plan for Stratford-on-Avon District. At the present time this comprises the Core Strategy and those Neighbourhood Plans that have been ‘made' (i.e. adopted). These contain their own Policies/Proposals Maps or specific maps relating to a particular topic which should be referred to alongside the District Council's Policies Map. Links to ‘made' Neighbourhood Plans are available from our Neighbourhood Planning page.

*Maps marked with an asterisk relate to areas also covered by a 'made' Neighbourhood Plan.

Informal Planning Guidance - Built-up Area Boundaries (BUABs)

In accordance with Policy CS.15 of the Core Strategy, we will identify Built-up Area Boundaries for Stratford-upon-Avon town, the 8 main rural centres (MRCs) and for the local service villages (LSV). Initial BUABs for Stratford-upon-Avon and the MRCs are shown on the accompanying Core Strategy Policies Map (see above). However, it is intended that BUABs for all the identified settlements will be identified through the Site Allocations Plan and/or relevant Neighbourhood Plans. Prior to adoption of the Site Allocations Plan, the Council has endorsed draft BUABs as a material consideration to help determine planning applications.

View the draft BUABs for the LSVs.

The Council has also published the guidelines used to draw the draft BUABs that were previously used as part of the Local Plan Review (July 2006).
