5 Year Housing Supply

New Houses - Alcester

The Council is responsible for ensuring that a sufficient number of additional homes are built each year to meet the housing needs of Stratford-on-Avon District. To demonstrate this, the anticipated supply of new homes is compared against the housing target over a period of 5 years. This calculation is known as the 5 year supply.

Latest Position – as of 31 March 2016

The 2016-17 5 Year Housing Land Supply Calculation and Sites Schedule is expected to be published on the website in mid June 2017.

Why is it important?
The Government wishes to ‘boost significantly' the supply of housing and has stated that where Council's cannot demonstrate a 5 year supply of housing, planning applications for new housing should be considered in the context of the presumption in favour of sustainable development, as set out in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).

How is it calculated?
The 5 year supply is based on the housing requirement for the plan period 2011 and 2031. It takes account of the homes already built from the start of the plan period to-date (known as completions) and the number of homes expected to be built in the next 5 years (known as commitments). More information on how the 5 year supply is calculated can be found in the accompanying Policy Advice Note.

Schedule of Quarterly Permissions
