Your refuse bin is collected every three weeks.
Your refuse bin should contain any general waste that cannot be recycled or composted. If you are unsure if you should put an item in your refuse bin, you can check using our A-Z Recycling Tool.
If you believe that you need an additional refuse bin, please visit the following page to check your eligibility: How to Get a Bin.
If your property cannot accommodate a wheeled bin, you may be able to use sacks instead. Households are able to present two sacks for collection every fortnight.
Please be aware, the council does not provide sacks.
If you are unsure if you should be using sacks or a wheeled bin, please contact us.
If you are currently using sacks but would like a wheeled bin, please contact us.
Currently, the majority of refuse collected from households in the District is taken to an Energy from Waste facility in Coventry. A very small amount is taken to a landfill site in Bubbenhall.
we are working hard to reduce this sort of waste. You can help us by being a smart consumer and putting all recyclable and compostable materials in one of your other bins.
Maggots are fly larvae. If flies settle on your rubbish or food they may lay eggs, which can hatch out as maggots within 24 hours (meaning the frequency of refuse collections is irrelevant).
Maggots are unpleasant, but there is no evidence to suggest that they cause health problems. The best approach is to be careful with your rubbish and food and ensure that flies cannot get to it.
To reduce the risk of maggots:
If you find maggots in your bin, most maggots will go when your bin is emptied. After it has been emptied, you can clean your bin with disinfectant or bleach and plenty of water. A fragranced cleaner will deter flies. If you do not want to wash out your bin, professional bin cleaning companies can be found online or in local papers.
