How to Get a Bin

How to get a bin

If your bin is damaged or lost, or you need an additional blue-lidded recycling bin or food waste caddy, you can order them online or contact us using the details below.

Payment includes the cost of delivery. Please note that all bins remain the property of Stratford-on-Avon District Council. Our current prices are set out below:

  • Blue-lidded recycling bin: £48
  • Grey household (non-recyclable) bin (standard size): £48
  • Grey household (non-recyclable) bin (smaller size): £42
  • Kerbside (outdoor) food caddy: £10
  • Kitchen (indoor) food caddy (optional): £5
  • Additional blue-lidded recycling bin: £25
  • Collection of an unwanted bin: £24

If our collection crews have damaged/broken your bin and you've received a card, you do not need to do anything - we will arrange for a replacement bin to be delivered to your property.

We provide each household with one grey household waste bin (standard size), one blue-lidded recycling bin and one kerbside food caddy. A smaller kitchen caddy is also available to order. Visit the page What Goes Where to check what to put inside each bin.

Bins that need to be replaced/repaired must be left somewhere clearly visible and accessible for the crews to swap.

Additional bin

Households are eligible for an additional grey household (non-recyclable) waste bin(s) if one or more of the following criteria is met, which causes extra waste to be generated:

  • 6 or more permanent occupants in the household; or
  • 2 or more children in disposable nappies; or
  • residents with a medical need.

There is a charge of £42 per bin which is refunded if you do not qualify. Please allow five working days for us to process your application. If the bin does not arrive within ten working days of ordering, please contact us.

New build properties

The builder or developer is responsible for providing all appropriate bins at new-build properties before they are occupied by the new home owner. Normal fees and charges apply and are chargeable to the builder or developer.

Rented accommodation

Landlords are expected to ensure that bins are in place before properties are occupied by new tenants. Replacement and additional bins may be chargeable to the landlord or tenant, dependant on the circumstances.

Properties without bins

Some properties in the District (such as flats above shops / maisonettes and some terraced houses) cannot store or present wheeled bins for collection. If you do not have space for any bins, your household, recycling and food waste can still be presented:

  • Household (non-recyclable) - rolls of black sacks are not provided by the council. Residents are advised to make their own arrangements regarding the purchase of sacks. A maximum of two sacks can be put out for collection fortnightly.
  • Recycling - black recycling boxes are available free of charge upon request. These can be collected from the council offices, or may be delivered to your property in some circumstances.
  • Garden waste - where a green bin is not possible, reusable green sacks can be purchased if you subscribe to the garden waste collection service. Please contact us if you would like garden sacks.
  • Food waste - food waste can be collected using kerbside caddies.
