The riverside in Stratford-upon-Avon is set to be transformed thanks to an award of £1.5million by Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership to Stratford-on-Avon- District Council working in partnership with Stratford Town Trust.

The Riverside Green Corridor scheme will revitalise the river frontage, provide high quality public space for use by all, create new green routes into town, reduce congestion and improve air quality. The increased provision for exercise and recreation created by the scheme will encourage both residents and visitors to spend quality time outdoors.

An initial concept design has been commissioned that presents a range of thoughtful and inspiring ideas as to how the space might be used from the Fisherman's car park at the north of the site through to Seven Meadows Road at the south.

Cllr Tony Jefferson, Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council (SDC) said: "This is an exciting development that will create attractive open space to be used for recreation, health, wellbeing, stories, art and nature. It will connect the town and encourage people to visit and linger, all contributing to the economic recovery for the region following Covid-19."

Sara Aspley, Chief Executive at Stratford Town Trust said: "Consulting with specialist agencies, including Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, we are committed to preserving the critical biodiversity that is supported by this area. This project is a real opportunity to regenerate the riverside while placing its ecological value at the heart of the development in a thoughtful and inspirational way."

Detailed plans are now available for public consultation until 31 January 2021, to ensure that everyone in the community can feedback on the scheme.

Visit: www.stratfordriverside.com to view the concept, feedback ideas and keep up to date with the project as it develops. It is unlikely that all of the aspirations will be met from this funding but it is hoped that over time, the final concept design will act as a long-term blueprint for this area.
