Independent businesses across Stratford-on-Avon District are being encouraged to apply for a new grant scheme aimed at helping revitalise high streets, improve shop frontages and support business growth.
Stratford-on-Avon District Council has launched a new Shop Front Improvement Grant, with a total fund of £32,000 available to support eligible businesses and property owners in enhancing the appearance of their premises.
The scheme will provide grants of up to 50% of eligible project costs, capped at £5,000, helping businesses invest in improvements that make their premises more attractive to customers and contribute to the overall appearance and vitality of local high streets.
Funding can be used for a range of projects, including shop front refurbishment and renovation, repainting, repairs, new signage, replacement signage, design work and other associated costs required to deliver improvements.
The grant is open to independent businesses occupying high street premises within Stratford-on-Avon District, as well as landlords of eligible vacant high street properties that are being actively marketed for occupation. Chain businesses and groups are not eligible for the scheme.
The initiative forms part of the District Council's wider commitment to supporting local businesses, encouraging investment and helping town centres remain vibrant places to live, work and visit.
Councillor George Cowcher, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economic Development said: "This new Shop Front Improvement Grant is an exciting opportunity for independent businesses to invest in the appearance of their premises and create a stronger first impression for customers.
"Attractive shop fronts play a vital role in bringing footfall into our town or village centres and helping businesses thrive. We know that many business owners have ambitious ideas for improving their premises and this funding can provide valuable support to help make those plans a reality.
"This is the first tranche of funding available through the scheme and, while the current fund is relatively modest, we hope it will generate strong interest from businesses across the District. Demonstrating demand and delivering successful projects could help support future opportunities to secure larger funding pots, enabling even more businesses to benefit in the years ahead.
"I would encourage eligible businesses and property owners to take a look at the grant and consider applying. It is just one of the ways Stratford-on-Avon District Council is working to support local businesses, strengthen our high streets and encourage long-term economic growth."
Applications for the scheme open on Monday 7 September, with businesses able to submit an initial online application outlining their proposed project. The application window closes on 5 October 2026.
The District Council will assess applications against agreed criteria and successful applicants will receive funding upon completion of approved works and submission of the required evidence.
