Stratford-on-Avon District Council has formally endorsed the Warwickshire Local Nature Recovery Strategy 2025, reinforcing its commitment to tackle biodiversity loss, support climate resilience, and create healthier, greener communities across the District.

The strategy, developed by Warwickshire County Council, identifies the most important opportunities to protect, restore and connect habitats across Warwickshire. Stratford-on-Avon District Council played an active role in shaping the strategy as a supporting authority and submitted a formal response during the public consultation process in November 2025.

The District Council will use the strategy to help inform planning decisions, guide the management of council land, support biodiversity net gain opportunities, and encourage community-led nature recovery initiatives. The strategy will also help shape policies within the emerging South Warwickshire Local Plan and support wider environmental objectives across the District.

The Local Nature Recovery Strategy is one of 48 strategies being developed across England to form a national Nature Recovery Network and help reverse the decline of wildlife and natural habitats

Councillor George Cowcher, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Planning at Stratford-on-Avon District Council, says: "This is an important document that will ensure that we highlight the need to conserve our natural environment."

The strategy identifies priority species, habitats and key areas for restoration, alongside actions such as woodland planting, meadow creation, and river and wetland restoration. An interactive map helps focus nature recovery efforts where they can deliver the greatest benefits.
