Stratford-on-Avon District Council is holding a six-week public consultation on the Revised Preferred Options version of its Site Allocations Plan.

The Council is responsible for preparing Plans that will shape the future of the District by identifying sites for future development.

These Plans also contain policies that the Council will use to judge planning applications. The Site Allocations Plan is an additional Plan that will sit alongside the existing Core Strategy and together they will enable residents, businesses and communities to know where new development may occur in the future.

The Plan includes a range of policies and proposals across the District relating to:

  • Reserve Housing Sites
  • Self-Build and Custom Housebuilding
  • Built-up Area Boundaries
  • Employment Enabling Sites
  • A46 Safeguarding
  • Specific Site Proposals

A revised approach has been taken to identifying Reserve Housing Sites in the new version of the Plan. This takes into account the scale of housing development that has already taken place in settlements across the District in recent years. As a result, reserve housing sites are not identified in those settlements that have already significantly exceeded their dwelling provision identified in the District Council's adopted Core Strategy Development Plan.

Specific reserve housing sites - on the edge of Stratford-upon-Avon and at Mappleborough Green on the edge of Redditch - are proposed for immediate release to meet the housing needs of Birmingham. These sites are the most appropriate for this purpose due to being in the more sustainable locations and with good accessibility to Birmingham.

The consultation runs from Thursday 16 June to Friday 29 July 2022.

Cllr Daren Pemberton, Deputy Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council and Place and Economy Portfolio Holder says: "This consultation is the latest stage in the preparation of the Site Allocations Plan which will be an important element of the District's Development Plan once adopted.

"The Plan sets out a range of planning policies and site proposals that set out the Council's approach to managing development across the District. The security of having a strong housing land supply including a series of identified reserve housing sites if required, will help protect the District from speculative developments in unsuitable locations.

"It is important that people have the opportunity to inform the Plan and we welcome comments on its content."

How to View the Consultation

The best way to view the consultation documents is online at www.stratford.gov.uk/sap22.

The Revised Preferred Options Plan is also available to view at the District Council offices (Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, CV37 6HX between 9.00am and 2.00pm Monday to Friday) and at public libraries across the District during their normal opening hours.

How to Comment

Information on how to comment is included within the Plan itself and on the website at www.stratford.gov.uk/sap22. By responding to this consultation you will have the opportunity to have your say on the content of the Plan before it is finalised.

What happens next?

Preparing the Plan is not a one-off event and there are a number of stages to its preparation. Preferred Options is essentially the draft stage. There will be further statutory consultation on the Proposed Submission version before the Plan is submitted to the Government for examination to check that it is fit for purpose.

Comments must be received by the District Council by 5.00pm on Friday 29 July 2022.
