Stratford-on-Avon District Council is holding a public consultation between 7 January and 19 February 2021 on the draft Gypsy and Traveller and Travelling Showpeople SPD.
The SPD is one of a number that accompanies the Core Strategy providing detailed advice and guidance to applicants when submitting planning applications relating to Gypsy and Traveller and Travelling Showpeople accommodation. When finished (adopted), it will be used by Stratford-on-Avon District Council to help reach decisions on whether to approve or refuse planning applications.
The consultation draft identifies the need for additional accommodation within the District and identifies areas where potential new Gypsy and Traveller and Travelling Showpeople sites may be suitable, subject to planning permission, as well as guidance on what any new sites should look like in respect of their design and layout.
The SPD does not allocate specific locations or parcels of land for new permanent sites as this can only be done through a higher level policy document. Prepared as an interim measure, the contents of the SPD will be subsumed into a Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan that will in due course identify new permanent sites.
The best way to view the consultation documents and make your comments is online at www.stratford.gov.uk/gandt-spd

Cllr Daren Pemberton, Deputy Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council and Place Portfolio Holder says: "Addressing the needs of Gypsies and Travellers and Travelling Showpeople in the District is an important element of the Council's Core strategy. The Council plans for meeting the housing need of the settled community and it is vital that this group's needs are also met so that they can thrive as parts of sustainable communities. This consultation is the opportunity for our residents to inform our policy in this regard and we welcome comments on its content."
Once the consultation closes the comments received will be assessed and the SPD will be finalised as appropriate prior to its adoption by the Council later in 2021.
Any queries regarding the consultation can be raised by contacting the Policy Team at email@example.com or 01789 260334.
