One of Stratford-on-Avon District Council's cabinet members has resigned from the council, which will lead to a by-election in May. Richard Adams, the Conservative member for Long Compton, and portfolio holder for planning and transport, left the council on Thursday 3 March.

Cllr Adams was elected onto the district council in 1996 until 2000, then again in 2001. He joined the council's ruling executive as portfolio holder in June 2004.

The by-election will be held in the Long Compton ward on Thursday 5 May, the same day as county council elections and possible general election.
