From 1st October 2014, it became a legal requirement for all Lettings and Property Management Agents to become members of a government approved 'property redress scheme'. For Estate Agents this came into effect in 2007.

The current approved schemes are:

• The Property Ombudsman Limited
• Property Redress Scheme

Stratford-on-Avon District Council has the power to impose a fine of up to £5,000, at least once, on a letting agent and/or property manager who has failed to register with a redress scheme.
