Stratford-on-Avon District Council is holding a public consultation on public safety, to help secure funding from the Government's Safe Streets Fund.

To provide enhanced safety of public spaces, the Government announced in March, an additional £25 million for the Safer Streets Fund, with a particular emphasis on improving the safety of public spaces for women and girls.

The survey being undertaken is to understand public feelings of safety in Stratford-upon-Avon, where people feel safe and where they don't and what can be done to improve safety in particular areas.

It is an opportunity for those who live, work or visit Stratford-upon-Avon to give feedback on experiences and feelings of safety.

It's easy to get involved - you can take part in the survey at https://online1.snapsurveys.com/s/saferstreets

The questionnaire can be completed by anyone but will be particularly seeking the views of women and girls.

The closing date for completing the questionnaire is the 11th July 2021.

What happens next?
Stratford-on-Avon District Council will analyse the results of the consultation and the information will be used in any application to the Home Office. A range of other sources of official crime data and public safety data will also be used to inform a potential bid.

What is the Safer Streets Fund?
The tragic killing of Sarah Everard on 3rd March 2021 brought to the forefront concerns about women and girls safety in public places. To provide reassurance to women and girls and ensure the safety of public spaces, the Government announced, on 15th March, an additional £25 million for the Safer Streets Fund.

The third round of the Safer Streets Fund opened on the 3rd of June 2021, providing an opportunity to bid from a fund of £25 million for the year 2021/22, up to £550,000 per application.

The funding seeks to:

  • Reduce violence against women and girls and increase women and girls' feelings of safety in public spaces.
  • Build the evidence base for what works on reducing violence against women and girls crimes therefore increasing feelings of safety in public areas.
  • Improve both the national and local recording/reporting regarding violence against women and girls in public spaces.
  • Make public spaces safer for all.
