Stratford-on-Avon District Council is holding a six-week consultation on proposed changes to off-street car parking charges.

The District Council's current Parking Policy and charging schedule, was set in 2012 following an extensive consultation and engagement exercise. On 11 January 2021, The Cabinet considered a report to increase parking charges in line with inflation, the first time for eight years.

As part of the statutory process, the changes proposed to the Parking Policy are now subject to a public consultation.

The consultation includes proposals to:

  • Introduce charging at Fisherman's car park.
  • Increase overnight charges at Stratford Leisure Centre for motorhomes from £2 to £20.
  • Introduce two hours maximum stay at The Greig Leisure Centre and Shipston Leisure Centre, to eliminate the misuse of the car parks by non-leisure centre users.
  • Reduce the maximum stay for permit holders at Stratford Leisure Centre from four hours to three hours, to ensure that the permit is only used when using the Leisure Centre facilities.

The consultation closes on Friday 26 March 2021.

The consultation can be viewed on the District Council's website at: https://www.stratford.gov.uk/parking-consultation

Comments can also be submitted by emailing consultation@stratford-dc.gov.uk

In addition, the District Council is also writing to the 2,000 Concessionary (Over 65s) permit holders as part of the consultation.

Cllr Ian Shenton, Operations Portfolio Holder says: "Our car park charges haven't been reviewed for several years and as a Council we are considering a number of options due to the rising costs of operating and maintaining car parks.  Car parking is important to many of us and often a topic of great debate and I look forward to hearing a wide range of views."

Once the consultation results have been collated and analysed a further report will be presented to The Cabinet before final recommendations are agreed.
