The Community Safety service at Stratford-on-Avon District Council (SDC) is proposing to undertake a CCTV project to install CCTV cameras on a new lighting column on Summerton Way. SDC has been aware of concerns from residents about anti-social behaviour allegedly taking place around the alleyways near the scout hut and the top end of Summerton Way. As a result, the council have worked closely with Warwickshire Police to address these concerns. As a part of this approach two new CCTV cameras are proposed to be installed and monitored by the council. The purpose of these cameras will be to detect and prevent crime and provide community reassurance.

Two cameras would be installed including one Pan/Tilt/Zoom enabled camera allowing CCTV operators to fully move the camera and the other being a static camera to provide maximum coverage of all areas. The cameras will be recording 24 hours per day and monitored by the British Standard 7958 accredited CCTV Department at SDC. CCTV footage is retained and made available to the police for the use in criminal investigations or civil litigation. This standard is annually inspected by independent auditors, and the findings are published on the council's website. All CCTV monitored by the council is done so by trained and fully licensed CCTV operators. The team have direct contact with the Warwickshire Police control room and police officers on the ground.

The CCTV cameras would be programmed with privacy zones in place. This means that for areas of private property that maybe viewable from the camera, these would be digitally blocked out so that CCTV operators cannot view these areas.

The cameras would be sited on a new lighting column installed at the top of Summerton Way and the start of the alleyway which leads to the Alcester Road. See below the map showing the proposed location:
