From 31 March 2025, all businesses, charities, and public sector organisations in England must follow new workplace recycling rules under the Simpler Recycling reforms. This means separating dry recyclable materials (plastic, metal, glass, paper, and card), food waste, and residual waste before collection. The aim is to reduce contamination and improve recycling rates. Waste collectors must also collect these materials separately, and paper/card must be kept apart from other recyclables unless impractical. Micro-firms (with fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees) are exempt until 31 March 2027. Non-compliance may lead to enforcement by the Environment Agency.
