South Warwickshire Economic Strategy
Purpose of an Economic Strategy
The purpose of an Economic Strategy, as prepared by a local Council, is to give an overview of the economy of a local area and to provide an opportunity for the local Council to set out priorities for how it wishes to support the economy. This support can include (a) deploying resources (including staff resources) most effectively, (b) working with local employers and education institutions and (c) linking with, and obtain support from, outside agencies including Government.
Economic strategies can also allow councils to consider how to align economic objectives with other priorities such as responding to climate emergencies. Economic strategies are not land-use planning documents; however, they can support the work of plan-making by helping to shape the local economic priorities which underpin allocations and policies within the Local Plan.
Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick District Councils have produced a joint Economic Strategy for the following reasons:
Adopted South Warwickshire Economic Strategy
The South Warwickshire Economic Development Strategy was adopted by the Council on 11 December 2023. South Warwickshire Economic Development Strategy and Action Plan - December 2023
Local Industrial and Economic Strategy (Superseded)
The Council adopted the?Stratford-on-Avon District Local Industrial and Economic Development Strategy 2018-2031??on Monday 17 December 2018. This is the first Industrial and Economic Development Strategy to be adopted by the District Council. It seeks to increase productivity across Stratford-on-Avon District and includes an Action Plan setting out what interventions we and our partners should make to achieve indigenous business growth, retention and new inward investment.
In December 2019 the Council published its first annual update to the?Action Plan??and agreed to review the action plan on a bi-annual basis.
An?update of actions undertaken in relation to the Action Plan??was published in June 2020.
