Stratford Leisure Centre hosts free CPR training for local community

Press Release

Published on 12 October 2021

Stratford Leisure Centre is honouring World Restart Start A Heart Day, on Saturday 16 October 2021, by offering free CPR training sessions.

The two-hour, drop-in sessions will take place from 10am-12pm, and anyone is welcome to attend. The activity is being led by Julia Reeves, Everyone Active's new Active Communities Instructor and qualified First Aid Trainer for the Stratford region.

Managed by leisure operator Everyone Active in partnership with Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Stratford Leisure Centre is running the activity as part of its Active Communities Strategy, which focuses on improving the health and wellbeing of the local community.

With Stratford-on-Avon's growing ageing population, research has revealed that by 2039, there will be a 51.5 per cent increase in the 80-89 age category and a 37.2 per cent increase in the 70-79 age group, resulting in a higher prevalence of heart disease risk within the area.

World Restart Start A Heart Day encourages people to learn how to perform CPR, providing them with the skills and confidence to help if someone collapses and stops breathing normally.

Richard Bell, General Manager at Stratford Leisure Centre explains why the centre is supporting World Restart Start A Heart Day. He comments: "We recognise the needs of the local community and aim to provide educational resources and training, alongside our leisure centre facilities. Our mission is to encourage a happy and healthy community, so our focus is on both well-being and fitness.

"We decided World Restart a Heart Day would be a fantastic opportunity to engage and train individuals keen to learn all about CPR, giving them the skills to support anyone in need."
