Essential tree maintenance works

Following Stratford-on-Avon District Council's independent tree inspections, from now until the end of March 2026, some essential tree maintenance works will be carried out on a small number of trees within its public open spaces.  

The works will be undertaken on behalf of the District Council by Warwickshire County Council Forestry operatives.  

The District Council would like to reassure residents that these works are being carried out only on trees that are diseased or structurally weak. This proactive approach is part of the District Council's legal duty to ensure that trees on its land do not pose a risk to the public.

While the likelihood of injury from trees is very low, many trees in the District grow in parks or next to footpaths, where falling branches could pose a serious risk. To manage this, the District Council employs an independent arboricultural consultant to carry out regular inspections and identify any trees that may present a danger.  

Whilst most trees require minimal work during their lifetime, like all living things, they do not live forever. Regular inspections help monitor their health and ensure timely intervention when necessary. Where possible, remedial work will be carried out to remove dangerous branches or correct poor growth. However, in some cases, the entire removal of the tree may be necessary and only as a last resort.  

All trees removed will be replaced in due course, as part of the District Council's ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing the District's green spaces.
