Stratford Leisure Centre is kicking off the new year with an exciting announcement, as it plans to reveal several new features, including the launch of its new TAGactive Arena.

TAGactive is a state-of-the-art, gamified obstacle course which fuses physical activity, gaming and technology.

Stratford, run in partnership with Stratford-on-Avon District Council, is the second of Everyone Active's 200 leisure centres across the country to launch TAGactive.

A game for children / young people and adults*, TAGactive takes place in an obstacle course arena split into zones, each of which contain a large number of illuminated TAGs.

Players collect points by 'tagging' these with a sensor on their wristband, the points value of each TAG being determined by the degree of difficulty in reaching it.

A player's score appears on an electronic scoreboard and adds the extra dimension of competition with rivals, as well as trying to post the best score of the day or even all time.

In addition to TAGactive, the centre will also be launching an upgraded version of its Clip n' Climb activity. Now gamified, users can wear tag bands to set times and challenges - creating a fun and immersive experience.

While TAGactive is aimed at all ages and interests, Everyone Active hopes its hybrid approach to activity, gaming and technology will encourage gamers to be more active, following a recent boom in online gaming's popularity.

Ofcom's 'Online Nation - 2021 report' revealed that 62% of adults and 92% of 16 to 24-year-olds played online games on an electronic device, while smartphones were used for gaming by 39% of UK adults

Stratford's Swimming Pool will also see a new addition, with the launch of a brand-new Teaching Pool including a variety of fun and interactive water play features (water walls, sprays and tipping buckets) for family and young children to enjoy - making a trip to the pool even more exciting and a great way to introduce young children to water.

Alex Fuoco-Lang, Contract Manager for Everyone Active at Stratford Leisure Centre, said: "We're excited to launch our brand new TAGactive Arena very soon. It provides a completely new offer for the local community by combining activity, gaming and technology.

"It will appeal to all ages and abilities, particularly younger individuals, who can continue to enjoy their love of gaming, but also benefit from engaging in exercise and healthy competition with friends, family colleagues or classmates."

Cllr Matt Jennings, Culture, Tourism and Leisure Portfolio Holder at Stratford-on-Avon District Council says: "This is an exciting addition to the activities already offered at Stratford Leisure Centre and is something which people of all ages and abilities can enjoy - bringing the fun factor to exercise!

"The investments being made to our Leisure Centres across Stratford-on-Avon District mean our residents have access to state-of-the-art facilities."

The centre will also continue to offer its Atlantis Adventure Inflatable in its main Swimming Pool on Saturday's and has resurfaced its Outdoor 3G Football Pitches. For the younger audience, it's Active Antz soft play sessions are also set to return every Monday.

TAGactive sessions are bookable via the Everyone Active app and website.
