Quick Stop Shop on Greenhill Street in Stratford-upon-Avon has stopped selling alcohol and tobacco after surrendering its licence.

The Owner, Mr Foad Weysi surrendered the Premises Licence after the Licensing Authority for Stratford on Avon District Council applied to review the licence.

The review, which was supported by Trading Standards and the Fire service, was scheduled for 19 January, however, immediately before the hearing a legal advisor for Mr Foad Weysi, submitted an application to surrender the Premises Licence, meaning the premises can no longer sell alcohol. Mr Weysi also stated that he no longer intended on selling tobacco.

The review followed a recent objection by Warwickshire Police to transfer the licence to Mr Jamal Dargalaei in December.

At the same time, the District Council acting as a responsible authority under the Licensing Act 2003, applied to review the Premises Licence on the grounds of crime and disorder and the protection of children from harm licensing objectives.

It followed a series of visits to the shop by Warwickshire Trading Standards, Warwickshire Police and District Council Licensing officers when counterfeit cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol were seized.  These visits also provided further concerns about poor management, breaches of licence conditions and unauthorised sales of alcohol.

However, following the premises licence being surrendered and the premises licence no longer being in existence a hearing was therefore not required to determine the application.

Cllr Christopher Kettle, Community Protection Portfolio Holder says: "As the licensing authority, it is our duty to work with residents, the police and other organisations to ensure that people selling alcohol and cigarettes are doing so responsibly.

"Although, the licence holder surrendered their licence prior to the scheduled review hearing, the actions of the District Council demonstrate that, along with community safety and welfare, we take licensing and breaches of licensing regulations seriously as part of the Council's role protecting the community."
