This month, Stratford Leisure Centre has launched a swim class to support adults living with long-term health conditions.

The water-based session will involve a low-impact cardiovascular workout, which is designed to improve balance and stability, in addition to supporting the circulatory system.

As the class is gentle on bones and joints, it is ideal for people with musculoskeletal conditions and chronic pain, including arthritis and fibromyalgia.

The leisure centre, which is run by Everyone Active in partnership with Stratford-on-Avon District Council, hopes to empower members of the community who have difficulty finding exercise classes that are suitable for their ability or health condition.

Amy Widman, activity and wellbeing manager at Everyone Active, said: "We recognise it can be difficult for people living with chronic pain or reduced mobility to find an exercise regime that works for their body.

"Swimming is a fantastic option for people with these conditions, so we wanted to introduce a regular session designed specifically with those individuals in mind.

"Everyone should reap the benefits of exercise in an environment that's right for them, so we're delighted to introduce these weekly swim sessions to support people living with musculoskeletal conditions."

The sessions will take place every Tuesday at 3pm and cost £1.50 for members and £3 for pay-as-you-go.

Cllr Lorraine Grocott, Environmental and Neighbourhood Services Portfolio said: "As a District Council, it is vital that we provide accessible and enjoyable leisure opportunities that can make a real difference in people's lives.

"These sessions are a fantastic way to help encourage those living with a long-term condition to become more active and take control of their health. Initiatives likes these really support the Health and Wellbeing element of our Council Plan."
