Transport Assistance for Students

Transport for Students under 16

To qualify for transport assistance for students under the age of 16, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • you are resident in Warwickshire
  • your child is attending the nearest qualifying school to home. This is the school in whose priority area you live, or another if nearer to home by the shortest walking route

The walking distance (using the shortest walking route) from your home to the nearest qualifying school is over:

  • two miles for children under the age of eight years
  • three miles for children aged eight – 16

Transport for Students aged 16-19

To qualify for transport assistance for students aged 16-19, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • be aged under 19 on 31 August before the course starts
  • be attending the nearest local authority-maintained school, foundation school, academy or maintained college offering the chosen course
  • be studying a full time course (at least 540 guided learning hours per year)

Please be aware that all seats are allocated on a first-come first-served basis and students are not guaranteed a place.

If any of the following apply you will not qualify for assistance:

  • you are applying for Higher Education courses for which you may apply for a mandatory grant
  • you are on a part-time course of less than 540 guided learning hours per year
  • you are 19 years of age or older on 1 September at the start of your course
  • you have not paid the annual or termly charge, or agreed to pay by standing order
  • you are in full time employment or on an equivalent training scheme
  • there is a closer school or college offering the chosen course
