Energy Rebate Scheme 2022

The government announced on 3 February 2022 measures to help protect millions of households from rising energy costs in 2022 to 2023.

These measures include a one-off £150.00 non-repayable rebate for households in England in council tax bands A – D, and those in band E who have the disabled reduction, known as the Council Tax Rebate.

This will be in the form of a payment of £150.00 per household and is not a reduction off your bill. There is one payment per household regardless of the number of occupants or council tax payers named on the bill.

Direct Debit Payers

We have started to make payments to customers who have made a direct debit payment in April and May. In the coming weeks, further payments will also be made to new direct debit payers who have made their first payment in May. The payments will appear on bank statements as 'SDC Energy Rebate'.

Under the scheme, government has confirmed that councils will need to make some bank verification checks where no direct debit payment has been made, where the bank account name differs (even slightly) to the liable council tax payer, or where no council tax is due.

If we require further information we will write to customers directly regarding this.

Please note that the council will not telephone customers asking for their bank details.

Non-Direct Debit Payers - Two Options

Option One - Choose to receive rebate into bank account

Those residents who do not currently pay council tax by direct debit will get a letter telling them how to claim their rebate. These letters will be sent out in June.

The claim will be made through a link on our website. If you do not have access to a computer or the internet, you will be able to call us for assistance.

Please note that the council will not telephone customers asking for their bank details.

Option Two - Choose to receive rebate to reduce council tax bill

Those residents who do not currently pay council tax by direct debit can request to have the amount credited to their council tax account. Once your account is credited, we will send you an amended bill showing your revised instalments. Please apply using the button below. Only use this button to request the rebate is used to reduce your council tax bill.
