The last 18 months have been like no other and during the pandemic Stratford-on-Avon District Council has been mindful that the uncertainty of jobs and businesses has caused financial hardship for many.

At the start of the pandemic, the District Council immediately suspended all legal and any other enforcement action to recover unpaid Council Tax or Business Rates.  This step was taken to help residents and businesses deal with the financial issues caused by Coronavirus, as the District Council didn't have the legal power to suspend Council Tax or Business Rates and was also still legally required to issue annual Council Tax Bills.

However, as the Government continues to lift restrictions, Council business will resume and with no Government exemption for Councils not to collect Council Tax, from September onwards the District Council will start to issue reminder letters and bills for those homes and businesses who are in arrears.

Cllr Jo Barker, Homes, Health and Wellbeing Portfolio at Stratford-on-Avon District Council says: "We know this has been an exceptionally hard year for a lot of people due to the pandemic and there has been a break in our usual collection processes. However, funding from Council Tax is essential to fund not only your local Council services but also those of police and fire services as well.

"So we do need everyone to pay their way in order to be able to maintain local services, but we understand that some people will be struggling, particularly this year. If this is you, please get in touch with us, to find out what support is available to you at this difficult time."

There have always been mechanisms in place to assist those with difficulties paying and the District Council would urge residents to contact them to discuss quickly how they can help you at this difficult time.

Staff at the District Council are available to help set up payment arrangements if you are in arrears and if you are on a low income you may be able to claim Local Council Tax Support towards your bill.
