Stratford-on-Avon District Council would like to reassure residents that its green garden waste service will continue to be an all year round service.  There are no plans to suspend it in October as reported in the local media today, Tuesday 31st August.

Unfortunately the publication of this incorrect information has caused a flood of calls to the District Council's contact centre.  This has increased the waiting time for all callers and therefore has had a knock on affect on other service areas.

Dave Nash, Strategic Director says: "The District Council works hard to provide residents with accurate service information.  Regrettably on this occasion the facts had not been checked and this mistake has caused confusion and anxiety to local residents.

"I would also like to apologise to those customers seeking to contact the Council on Tuesday whose enquiries were delayed.  The additional calls generated by the publication of this inaccurate information have caused us additional problems at what was already a busy time after the Bank Holiday weekend."

The Green Garden Waste Services
Green wheeled bins or green lidded bins with garden waste are collected every other week on the same collection day as the blue lidded recycling bin.Residents can put the following green materials in the green bin: grass cuttings; prunings; small trees/branches (Maximum 75mm/3 inch diameter); flowers and weeds.  Residents are also reminded that food waste including raw food, cooked food (including bones) can be put in the green wheeled bin wrapped in paper or put it in compostable bags but not in plastic bags or biodegradable bags.  The contents of the green wheeled bins are taken to an in-vessel compost facility in Ufton run by Biffa Waste Services where it is turned into compost that is used locally.
