You are able to put the following materials in your green/green lidded bin:

Garden Waste

Food Waste

Please note: Food waste can be put in the bin in paper bags or wrapped in newspaper or in compostable bags. No plastic bags or biodegradable bags, thank you.

I don't have a green wheeled bin, what can I use?

If you do not have a green wheeled bin and would like one, please contact us (details below). If you do not receive a wheeled bin service, you can request:

What happens to my garden and food waste?

Garden and food waste that is collected from households in the district is taken to an Invessel Composter treatment site at Ufton.

In-vessel composting (IVC)

IVCs treat food and garden waste mixtures. These systems ensure that composting takes place in an enclosed environment, with accurate temperature control and monitoring.

Mixed food waste and garden waste material enters the IVC plant where it is heated and sterilized to remove bacteria, before being turned in compost in as little as 2 weeks.

The composted material can then be reused, the most common use being soil conditioner, mulch, top soil constituent and turf dressing.

Fact: In comparison, it takes around three months of conventional outdoor composting to create compost ready to be used as soil conditioner.

Compost

Compost is beneficial because:

• The moisture-holding capacity of soil is improved with compost, reducing water loss and nutrient leaching.
• A variety of macro and micro nutrients are added to the soil, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers – making food more organic.
• The nitrogen release of compost is slow and steady so plants receive a constant flow of nutrients.

Household Waste and Recycling Centres

If you have excess garden waste or do not wish to use the green wheeled bin / green sack service, you can take your garden waste to one of Warwickshire County Council's Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Home composting

You may also wish to consider composting at home. Discounted compost bins are available from Warwickshire County Council.
