Parish Plans

Local communities are being encouraged by Government to produce comprehensive plans setting out their aspirations for the future. A number of Parish Plans, and prior to that Appraisals, have been produced in the District. Links to Plans and Appraisals, and the relevant committee report for their adoptions, are available by following the links listed below.

Parish Plans have an emphasis on action. The whole community is involved in thinking about the needs and aspirations of the Parish, and the results feed into positive actions in an Action Plan. The Action Plan might include tasks that volunteers from the parish can achieve themselves, or schemes that require partnership working and grant funding.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council is keen to adopt and support all Parish Plans as a material consideration and a local information source, provided that the Plan is representative of the whole community. Occasionally actions that are against council or national policy cannot be supported. More information can be found in the committee reports that are attached to the pages listed below.

Preparing a Parish Plan

Detailed guidance on the preparation of Parish Plans has been produced by the Countryside Agency.

Advice and support is also available from the District Council. The Community Grants team aim to help groups obtain funding for community projects that enhance the lives of those living in the district.

If you are a community who is preparing or just starting to prepare a Parish Plan, you are also advised to get in touch with the Planning Policy team.

Once finalised, such a Plan should be submitted to the District Council for consideration. In this way, our own services can be geared to responding to the wishes of the community and we can let other agencies know what improvements are desired. Parish Plans can also be used as a material consideration when determining planing applications.
