Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet allocates over £1.85 Million in funding to key infrastructure projects

Press Release

Published on 3 November 2025

Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet has today, Monday 3 November, approved the allocation of over £1.85 million in Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding to support vital infrastructure projects across the District.

The decision follows a comprehensive review and assessment process introduced earlier this year to ensure a more strategic and targeted approach to funding.

The Cabinet approved the revised allocation process in March 2025, moving away from the previous open bidding system. This new methodology prioritises projects that align with the Council's Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP) and Core Strategy, and that address pressing infrastructure needs in areas that have experienced significant development.

Following stakeholder engagement and a formal application process, 15 projects were submitted for consideration. These were evaluated against criteria including deliverability, alignment with strategic objectives, and broader community benefits such as climate resilience, health, and equality.

Among the recommended projects for funding are:

  • Improvements to facilities at Alcester Academy, including improvements to the sports field, which will also serve the wider community.
  • Resurfacing of the Stratford Greenway from Long Marston to Milcote Road.
  • Natural Flood Management Schemes for Wellesbourne/Kineton, Shipston on Stour and Alcester, developed in collaboration with the Environment Agency and Wildlife Trusts.

Projects not funded in this round will remain on the Infrastructure List for future consideration.

John Careford, Head of Development said: "This strategic allocation of CIL funding marks a significant step forward in how the District Council supports infrastructure across the District. By focusing on priority areas and engaging early with stakeholders, we're ensuring that every pound spent delivers maximum benefit to our local communities."

The total Strategic CIL available as of 31 March 2025 was £1,969,019.61, comprising receipts from the previous financial year and new contributions. Unspent CIL will be carried forward for use in the next financial year.

The Infrastructure List will be updated annually, with the next revision scheduled for March 2026.
