Essential scrub clearance works in Bridgetown Community Meadowland

Press Release

Published on 6 October 2025

For two weeks in October, scrub clearance works will be undertaken by contractors working on behalf of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, within Bridgetown Community Meadowland, south of Stratford-upon-Avon town centre.

The District Council would like to reassure residents that these essential works are being carried out following recommendations made by independent ecologists, and the same ecologists will be on site at key stages throughout the works to ensure that the wildlife is monitored and protected.

The scrub is being cleared to increase the area for grassland and wildflowers.

Over time, without intervention, the area of meadowland has decreased and been replaced by scrub. Without maintenance, scrub can quickly grow into young woodland, which will lead to a loss of biodiversity and reduced access for residents and visitors.

Whilst scrub will be retained around the perimeter of the site, it is being cleared using tractor-mounted equipment from the centre of three sites within Bridgetown Community Meadowland, to the north and south of Trinity Way (A4390).

During this process, areas of Bridgetown Community Meadowland will be closed for public safety. Works will be undertaken between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday only.

Notices will be put up in the local area to advise residents and visitors when the works are taking place.
