A female world bodybuilding champion and Stratford personal trainer is hosting free 'Ladies that Lift' sessions this Wednesday 8th March as part of International Women's Day celebrations.

Stratford Leisure Centre, run by Everyone Active in partnership with Stratford-on-Avon District Council, is commemorating this year's worldwide event by offering a series of free sessions to local women - regardless of whether they are a member or not.

Maria Giordmaina is a personal trainer at the leisure centre and in December 2022 was crowned The Natural Olympia, Physique Competition Classic Figure category champion for 2022/23 following an international contest in Las Vegas.

Maria's 'Ladies that Lift' sessions will take place at 6:30am, 9:30am and 1:30pm at Stratford Leisure Centre, for women interested in getting started or adding on to an existing fitness program. The sessions will cover how to lift weights confidently and safely, with the correct technique.

Over the last decade, the health and wellness benefits of strength training for women have grown in awareness and popularity and the sessions will aim to make strength training more accessible and comfortable for women.

Alex Fuoco-Lang, contract manager at Everyone Active, said, "We're really proud to support this year's International Women's Day by offering three 'Ladies that Lift' sessions with Maria.

"Weight training can be one of the most powerful tools in your workout locker and women are, now more than ever, interested in a weight training program. We want to make sure that everyone feels welcome, confident and prepared to participate in lifting weights and we hope these special strength sessions can help facilitate that."

International Women's Day is a world-wide event which highlights women's history, the challenges they face, and how we can work together to reduce inequality and inspire a new generation of girls and young women.
