Stratford-on-Avon District Council is reminding residents that there will be no changes to refuse and recycling collections over the Christmas and New Year period.

Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day all fall at the weekend so there will be no disruption to collection schedules this year, as collection days will not need to be moved.

Residents are advised to place their bins, boxes or sacks out for collection by 6am on their scheduled collection day during the festive period.

Extra waste
If you have any additional recycling, you can place it in a box or rigid container next to your blue-lidded wheeled bin for collection.

Please note: No additional general waste (refuse) placed by or on your grey wheeled bin will be collected.

To ensure that the crews can deal with the increased recycling generated at this time of year, there will be no garden waste collections from Monday 27 December 2021 to Friday 7 January 2022 inclusive. Garden waste collections will resume from Monday 10 January 2022.

Real Christmas trees can be cut up and placed in or beside your green wheeled bin for collection, or if you don't subscribe to the garden waste service, it can be put out beside your blue-lidded recycling bin for collection from Monday 10 January 2022.

Councillor Ian Shenton, Climate Change Portfolio said: "We are committed to ensuring that all additional recycling generated over the festive period is collected on the scheduled collection day.

"Due to the fire at the Ettington recycling plant earlier in the year, alternative arrangements are now in place for the recycling which means the crews have to travel further to dispose of the material; with the extra recycling being collected over the festive period, the trucks will fill up quicker making rounds longer to complete.

"I am confident that our residents will understand that the recycling collections need to be prioritised over the collection of garden waste, which is minimal at this time of year."

The District Council offices are closed between 24th December 2021 and 3rd January 2022 but the online 'report it' forms will still be available and actioned on missed bins and street cleansing issues.

In the event of adverse weather affecting collections, please check the District Council's website at www.stratford.gov.uk or Twitter on @StratfordDC or the District Council's Facebook page for all the latest updates.
