Each year Stratford-on-Avon District Council produces a 'State of the District' Report, summarising the events of the past year along with an outline of future proposals.

The State of the District report was reported at the last Council meeting on 24 October.

One of the most significant achievements across the District is having the joint-lowest number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance.  Just 280 were claiming the benefit, as of the last month, that around 0.4 per cent of the District's population.

Councillor Dave Riches, Enterprise and Revenues Portfolio says: “"It's extremely encouraging that in Stratford district we can keep so many people gamefully employed in such turbulent economic times. The district council is committed to supporting employers, who are stakeholders in the communities through a variety of different initiatives."

The State of the District Report is made up of data from sources such the District Council's Customer Satisfaction Survey 2016, The Quality of Life in Warwickshire Report and from the Office for National Statistics.

The report also shows education attainment is higher than national average, with 68% of pupils achieving 5+ A* to C in English and Mathematics, against to the national average of 57%.

Also household earnings (gross weekly pay) for employees working full-time in Stratford District were on average £546.30 compared to £492.50 in the West Midlands and for Great Britain £529.60.

The health of people across the District is generally better than the England average, where 83% stated they were in very good or good health.

In the District Council's own Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) survey, almost 80% of residents are satisfied with Council services, the highest score since the survey began in 2002, with refuse and recycling rated the top service.

The District Council will now use the report to help determine future policy and use it to help shape the council's budget for next year.
