Alcester people of all ages were this week invited to submit their designs for floor mosaics sited at the entrance of the town's three tueries that are being revamped as part of the £180,000 town centre improvement scheme.

Each design should be circular, reflect key elements of the town's character and include the name of the tuery-Bull's Head Yard, Market Place and Oak Tuery.

Each entry should be submitted on one side of A4 paper with the entrants name, age, address and telephone number clearly marked on the reverse, by Monday 6th February to Tuery Design Competition, Globe House, Priory Road, Alcester.

Entries will be displayed in Globe House and judged by a panel of community representatives chaired by project leader John Mattocks, of Advantage Alcester, the town's regeneration partnership. The three winning designs will then be translated into the mosaics by public artist Steve Field through a series of workshops involving the winners and the young people of the town. The winners will also be publicly recognised in the tuery in which their design is featured.

The mosaics are being jointly funded by Warwickshire County Council Arts service and the regional development agency Advantage West Midlands. The refurbishment of the tueries with other improvements to the town already under way are Advantage Alcester projects being carried out by the county council with the support of Stratford District Council.
