Sporting stars shine at District Sports Awards

Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Annual Sports Awards took place on Sunday 21 January at the Civic Hall in Stratford.  Over 200 people attended the award ceremony with David Bradley, star of the Harry Potter films, as special guest.  

The awards were as follows:

  • Community Award - Southam Gymnastics Club
  • Junior Sports Person - Bethany Roberts, Royal Leamington Spa Archery Club
  • Senior Sports Awards - Steve Howes, Coventry Tri Club
  • Junior Club/Team of the year - Mezzo Majic Dance Team
  • Senior Club/Team of the year - James Gordon and James Roe, Stratford Boat Club
  • Coach/Sports Teacher of the year award - Stephen Tunicliffe, Stratford Town Colts
  • Volunteer/Club Administrator of the year award - Philip Douthwaite, Radway Cricket Club
  • Service to Sport award - Martyn Brookhouse, Welcombe Hills School

8 Passport to Excellence, Working towards London 2012, were awarded to the following:

Lawrie Mills      
James Roe              
Lauren Hawthorne       
James Gordon         
Emily Key               
Emily Carter           
Emma White                     
Ciara Horne

"This was a wonderful event and highlights the dedication, expertise and achievements of individuals and teams in the District," says Cllr Chris Williams, Community Services Portfolio Holder.  

£214 was raised for the District Council's Chairman's Charities, The Shakespeare Hospice, Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and St Johns Ambulance.
