Stratford-on-Avon District Council is encouraging all its claimants of housing benefit to sign up to the quick and easy BACS method of payment, to then receive their housing benefit payment directly into their accounts or to landlords.

This BACS method of payment aims to:

·         reduce cheque clearing times,

·         alleviate postal delays,

·         reduce possibility of cheques being stolen and,

·         become more efficient.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council will be writing to all its current benefit payees when issuing their next benefit payment, inviting them to change to BACS.

Any payee who does not receive their letter describing the new BACS method of payment with their next cheque can contact Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Revenue and Housing Team on 01789 260991 or email Revenues@stratford-dc.gov.uk.

"I am pleased that Stratford-on-Avon District Council is able to offer this BACS housing benefit service to meet the demands of a busy modern life and to ease the delays often associated with receiving payments of this kind." Says Gillian Roache, Executive Portfolio Holder for Revenues and Housing.

"This is just one of the ways in which the District Council is working towards maintaining an inclusive community as part of our Corporate Aims."
