21 of the District's students visited their local MP on their trip to the Houses of Parliament.

The trip was arranged as part of Stratford-on-Avon District Council's continued support for the national initiative, Local Democracy Week and sought to give the students, from local sixth forms, the opportunity to understand more about the democratic process.

Schools that were represented from South Warwickshire were; Stratford-upon-Avon High School, King Edward VI Grammar School, and Kineton High School along with members of the Stratford Youth Forum.

"It was really good to see the young people taking such an interest in the Parliamentary process, particularly as many of them will be eligible to vote at the next election." Says Revenues and Housing Portfolio Holder, Councillor Gillian Roache, who accompanied the young people.

"We have always been keen to allow young people to comment on the issues that affect them."

Mr Maples will be following up this meeting by going into some of the District's schools to discuss current issues over the next few weeks.

The young people are being invited to an event being hosted by the District Council at Elizabeth House on 19 November, at which they are able to voice issues of general concern to young people.  The event, 'SAY SO' (Serious About Youth Speaking Out), is part of the on-going work of the District Council to listen to the views of its younger residents.
