Next week Stratford-on-Avon District Council, in partnership with Warwickshire County Council, is set for Local Democracy Week 15 - 19 October, having arranged a variety of activities organised to promote understanding of what the Councils do and raise awareness of local democracy.

A Political Speed Dating Event is to be held on Tuesday 16 October starting at 4.30pm at Wellesbourne Youth Centre, hosted by BBC Coventry and Warwickshire's local reporter Moira Rawlings. Local Councillors vie to make the best impression with local young people and hear first hand the issues that are important to them.

Elizabeth House hosted a Schools' Debate, attended by two teams from each of the following local schools; Stratford-upon-Avon High School, King Edward VI School and Kineton High School with the overall winning school, Kineton, now going forward to the County grand final on Thursday 18th October at Warwick's Shire Hall.

Local Democracy continues after the national campaign in Stratford-on-Avon District, and future events include:

  • continued Political Speed Dating events throughout the year aiming to cover the District
  • trip to Parliament on 22 October to meet local MP John Maples
  • Question Time in Alcester on 2 November with MP John Maples

The Local Democracy Campaign aims to encourage young people to become involved in their community and the wider democratic process.
