Stratford-on-Avon District Council is on track to recover the 3.7% of uncollected Council tax from the last tax year.
The drop in collection rate, which was expected, but none the less, of great concern to the Council, was due to a change-over of computer systems which was necessary to improve service efficiency and in turn collection rates.
The new system has already proved its worth, with £1 million of the original £2.2 million outstanding having been recovered. The Council is actively pursuing recovery of the remaining debt.
Stratford-on-Avon District Council prides itself in being amongst the top performing Council's in the country, with a current collection rate target of 98.6%, which it is on track to reach by the end of this financial year.
Of every £1 collected by the District Council;
· 0.09p is kept by the District Council,
· 0.11p goes to Warwickshire Police,
· 0.77p goes Warwickshire County Council and,
· 0.03p to Parish and Town Councils.
"I am pleased that the Revenues section of Stratford-on-Avon District Council has worked so hard after the challenging change over of revenues system, to reclaim over half of the outstanding council tax that was outstanding at the start of the year." "For the District Council to be one of the best in collecting council tax on a consecutive yearly basis, has meant that this reduction in recovery experienced last year stood out as unusual. To be on course to collect 98.6% this year, plus a significant amount of the debt that accrued last year, is a great achievement."
