A belated Christmas present has been given to the children and young people of the District. A grant of £200,000 has been awarded to Stratford-on-Avon District Council by the Big Lottery Fund in support of its new Children's Play Strategy.

The Play Strategy (PS), managed by the District Council's Play Partnership, was developed following considerable consultation with local children, young people and adults from across the District.

The activity sessions will be free to attend and staffed by qualified play workers and will include the following play development schemes;
·        a mobile skate park complete with ramps, quarter pipes and grinding bars,
·        a play outreach programme and,
·        a Wild Play project working in partnership with the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.

Delivery of the play projects will begin in early spring 2008.

"The Big Lottery Fund has enabled Stratford-on-Avon District Council to provide the opportunity for children and young people to have fun and  become involved in play activities across the District in a controlled and safe environment." Says Councillor Chris Williams, Portfolio Holder for Community Services.
