Stratford-on-Avon District Council's full council meeting on the proposed eco-town development will be broadcast live on the internet next week.

The full Council meeting will be held on Monday 12 May at 2pm at the District Council offices in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The live webcast will be made on the Council's website http://www.stratford.gov.uk.

People will be able to watch the webcast live or view recordings later whenever they want.  Those who do not have access to the internet at home can watch the webcast at their local library.  Members of the public are advised to check availability with your local library first.  The recordings will also be held on the website for viewers who cannot log in for the live coverage.

"Due to the high public interest in the proposed eco-town development the District Council has decided to pilot the use of this technology to show the meeting on the web," says Paul Lankester, Chief Executive.

"This will enable as many people as possible to view the proceedings live or at a time that suits them, from their workplace, home or any other place with access to the Internet.

"Webcasts are an excellent way to give the wider community an insight into local democracy.  It will provide everyone with an opportunity to view local decision making affecting their community.  Eventually we hope to enable local people to ask questions during the debate and have them answered within minutes."

This is a new initiative for the District Council which is designed to improve access to the Council through electronic means and the provision of effective services through the use of technology.
