A public inquiry starts on Tuesday 22 April, following an appeal by Summers Poultry Products Ltd against the development of land at Cank Farm, Well Lane, Tanworth-in-Arden, Solihull.

The appeal relates to a planning application for extensions to the existing slaughterhouse and alterations to internal access, parking and turning area.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council refused the application on the grounds that the proposed development constitutes inappropriate development in conflict with Green Belt policy. In particular, the visual impact of the proposed extensions would harm the openness of the Green Belt by reason of their size and would conflict with the purpose of including land within the Green Belt of safeguarding the countryside from encroachment.

The proposed development would therefore conflict with adopted policy PR2 and harm the openness of the Green Belt.  The District Planning Authority does not consider there are any very special circumstances applying to this proposal which would allow it to grant planning permission contrary to the prevailing policy.

The inquiry, expected to last for 3 days, will be held at the Council Offices, Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon starting at 10am.

A Government Planning Inspector will preside over the inquiry.

Members of the public may attend the inquiry and express their view - at the discretion of the inspector.
