Senior Sports Development Officer for Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Helen Slatter, has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Beijing Olympic Games.

Jetting off this Friday (15 August) as Team Manager of the Open Water Swimming Team, Helen will join her team before they compete on 20 and 21 August.

The Open Water competition consists of a 10km swim in the Olympic Rowing Park in the Shunyi District of Beijing. With two swimmers ranked in the top 3 in the world, hopes are high to return with a medal.

Helen is no stranger to Olympics, she has competed at 3 Olympic Games in the pool herself, being part of the Open Water Team is a new and exciting challenge for Helen and one that she is relishing!

Stratford-on-Avon District Council's continued support has allowed Helen to take up this unique opportunity, giving her time off work when Team GB and British Swimming have required her services has meant that being selected for the Olympic Team has been the icing on the cake.
