Budding new businesses in the Shipston-on-Stour area are already reaping the benefits of a service launched in January. The Shipston Business Start Up Centre is currently working with six entrepreneurs on launching their new business projects and further business start-ups are welcomed.

"This is part of a pilot programme in the Stour Power regeneration scheme to help strengthen the town's economy, and I am delighted it has already delivered some good results." said Cllr Trevor Russel, the Chairman of Stour Power.

"The Centre is provided by Stratford-on-Avon District Council in partnership with a number of organisations. New and growing businesses are being offered help in areas such as marketing and planning, as well as a direct link to Coventry University Enterprises and I would encourage anyone who feels they need help with their new business to get in tough ."

The Centre is staffed by Peter Brudenell and Alex Hicks who are Business Mentors working on behalf of Coventry University Enterprises. Both are experienced in running their own businesses and are keen to support any individual who has an idea or needs advice and support in starting their own business.

"Being from Shipston, I think the Centre offers those seeking help with their new business or idea the best possible start," says Peter Brudenell.

"Even better though - the services provided at the Centre are fully funded for this initial 'pilot' stage."

Local businesswoman Louise Crooker has set up her company, C-Rock (UK) Ltd, with help from the Centre, and has already has spoken to contacts in South Africa and is likely to be visiting the Czech Republic in the very near future.

Louise said: "without the help and advice given from the Business Mentors my plans would not be so advanced. The support offered by the centre is fantastic."

The Centre, located at the District Council offices in Telegraph Street, provides seminars on small business management, new products & services to market, financing a new venture, and starting and planning your own business. The scheme is free and open to people in Shipston and the surrounding area.   Together with Stratford District Council, the other partners involved in this programme are: Coventry University Enterprises, South Warwickshire Business Partnership, Stour Power and  BT.

Places are still available and anyone who has an idea for a new business or would just like to view the facilities should contact Peter Brudenell on 07793 045365.
