Stratford-on-Avon District Council is joining Warwickshire County Council, NFU Mutual, Warwickshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (WEEAC) and Marks and Spencer to encourage residents to 'Switch it Off' this year.

The challenge to shoppers is not to just 'stand by' and waste energy.

Cotton bags containing information on the Switch It Off campaign and energy saving light-bulbs will be handed out to shoppers.  It is hoped that residents will turn off unnecessary appliances as part of 'The Big Switch Off' on Friday 24 October between 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm.

"Stratford-on-Avon District Council working in conjunction with its partners is keen to see residents reduce their energy requirements - and the 'Switch it Off' campaign is an excellent reminder to residents to think about the amount of energy they are using.  This year's campaign should help people to save money on ever increasing energy bills, as well as 'doing their bit' towards reducing their impact on the environment." says Councillor Simon Jackson, Portfolio holder for Environment.

The campaign is running from Monday 20 October to Friday 24 and will culminate in 'The Big Switch-off' which last year saw residents responding to the 'Switch it Off' message positively.
