During the temporary absence of the green bin service Stratford-on-Avon District Council is reminding residents of the greener ways that might be considered when disposing of their Christmas trees:
- If the tree still has roots, plant it in the garden
- Make use of local Home Waste Recycling Centres, provided by Warwickshire County Council where Christmas trees and green garden waste is being composted
- Store the tree until the green bin service is operating in April 2009
- Compost the tree in a compost bin

Please remember: cars and estates are the only vehicles accepted at Warwickshire Household Waste Recycling Centres. Cars and estates towing small un-braked trailers are accepted.

The District Council would like to remind residents that they can place further recyclable items in a cardboard box at the side of their blue bin for collection if their blue bin is full, rather than sending it to landfill. This opportunity is not just available during the festive periods.

Also, recycle your Christmas cards and support the Woodland Trust Christmas Card Recycling Scheme. Cards can be recycled at WH Smith, Tesco including the Alcester Express store, Marks & Spencer main Stratford store and TK Maxx stores from 2 January to 31 January.
