Stratford-on-Avon District Council is reminding residents to be mindful of using Council licensed taxis over the festive season.

District Council Licensing Officials are reminding everyone to either call to book an official taxi or walk to an official rank and check that there is a Stratford-on-Avon District Council licence plate on the vehicle before hiring it.

Taxi plates and Drivers Licence Badges in Stratford District are changing too, drivers will wear new-style identification badges and have a duplicate inside the vehicle.  The new-style drivers badges will be phased in over the next three years.

The rear Licence Plates and the internal Licence Plates will be displayed in the window of taxis. The new plates and badges will be phased in over time, with both old and new plates being valid until December 2009.

Hackney Carriage Taxi Ranks around Stratford town are located at:
" Bridge Street outside Boots
" Union Street near Lloyds Bank
" On the corner of Meer and Wood Street, outside Natwest bank
" Rother Street
" Wood Street
" High Street
" Chapel Street night time only 6pm 8am
" Greenhill Street night time only 7pm 6am

Stratford-on-Avon District Council regularly check the safety of both licensed Private Hire and Hackney Carriage vehicles, all drivers are also CRB checked, says Councillor Simon Jackson, Portfolio Holder for Environment.

Fares and tariffs are set too, so you know when you hire a taxi how much you should be expecting to pay for your trip.
