Stratford-on-Avon District Council warns that assaults on parking attendants will not be tolerated and will seek to prosecute any perpetrator.

The warning follows a verbal and physical assault on a parking attendant at the Recreation Ground car park in Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday 18 July.

During the incident the parking attendant was monitored by CCTV and the vehicle was stopped on the Alcester Road by the Police shortly afterwards and statements taken. The incident is currently being investigated by the Police.

Parking attendants play a key role in helping to ensure the parking provision around Stratford District runs smoothly as possible and to protect the safety of all road users and no member of staff should expect to be assaulted for coming into work.  Police, CCTV and parking attendants work very closely together to support the community.

"Our parking attendants carry out valuable work not only in keeping the traffic moving but also in supporting the community; carrying out a difficult job in sometimes difficult circumstances.  To vilify them and attempt to assault them is totally unacceptable.  The District Council works hard to make Stratford District a safe place to live and work and will not tolerate violence of any kind," says Councillor Mike Brain, Community Services Portfolio.

"There are the proper channels for people to use to appeal against a parking ticket.  Whatever anyone feels about receiving a parking ticket there is absolutely no excuse for any acts of violence or intimidation against a parking attendant."
