An appeal is going out for Warwickshire's resident not to add hundreds of tonnes to landfill and to instead recycle their old Yellow Pages.

People living in Warwickshire will soon be getting their new Yellow Pages, and as the new one arrives, there is the annual danger of many homes throwing the old one straight in the general waste bin.

Warwickshire Waste Partnership, made up of the county council and the five districts and boroughs, is encouraging all residents to recycle their old Yellow Pages rather than put it in their rubbish bin.

Each of the old yellow pages weighs 1.464kg which means that in Warwickshire there'll be an extra 323.5 tonnes of paper entering the waste stream. If people put these in their bins the material will go straight to landfill, but if they are recycled, the material will be made into a range of useful materials such as cardboard, packaging, insulation material and newsprint.

All districts are now able to collect Yellow Pages in the kerbside recycling container. Yellow pages can also be taken to any paper recycling bank across the county - visit www.recyclemore.co.uk to find your nearest site.

Cllr Alan Cockburn, Chair of Warwickshire Waste Partnership and Warwickshire County Councils Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: "It's such a massive amount of paper, it would be fantastic if every single resident in Warwickshire could help the environment by recycling their yellow pages this year."
