Following the recent press coverage of the new Internet Eyes internet 'game' Stratford-on-Avon District Council would like to clarify that the CCTV cameras being used by Internet Eyes are privately owned and are not the District Council's CCTV Cameras.

All 90 of the District Council's CCTV cameras are in the public realm installed at strategically positioned locations in Stratford, Shipston, Alcester, Southam, Bidford, Wellesbourne and Studley recording real time footage 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which is then fed via optical fibre cabling back to the 24-hour monitoring centre in Stratford-upon-Avon.  All the images from these are protected by the Data Protection and Human Right Acts and are not available on the internet.

The District Council's highly acclaimed CCTV system has received the British Standard Accreditation, recognising good management and practice for the third year running;  making the District Council's CCTV system one of only a limited number provided by Councils to this standard.

Internet Eyes is a new reality game offering cash rewards to people for catching criminals by watching privately owned CCTV cameras, in shops, petrol stations and private car parks live on the internet which is being trialled in Stratford-upon-Avon.
